The CTC has been taking mountain biking much more seriously in recent years and in particular has been campaigning on the access issues we face. They're also running a number of led rides locally highlighting some of the top riding spots across the area. Burnley and Pendle CTC are aiming to organise one mountain bike ride per month and have three pencilled in.
14th April at Lee Quarry starting at 11.00am.
19th May starting at Hurstwood (trail Guide coming soon to this site) starting at 10:00am.
9th June at Gisburn Forest (meeting at Cocklett Hill) at 11:00am.
The pace of the ride will be tailored to those turning up so don't worry if you're not a lycra clad racing whippet (let's be honest not many of us actually are). Accompanied children are also welcome (right up to the point they own you on the first technical feature....).

It's always worth considering joining the CTC as well (P.M.B.A. is an affiliated group). Not only do you get support in the form of their insurance and legal advice if the worse should happen on road but as mentioned above they're also actively representing the interests of mountain bikers. Of all the cycling bodies they have the most clout with government and are probably the group most likely to get things changed in our favour. We recently had Colin Palmer, the CTCs Access Advisor come and speak at the P.M.B.A. Access 101 seminar which opened a few eyes. The CTC are currently campaigning to defend our rights to ride the countries forests as despite the wholesale canning of the plans to sell off the Forestry Commission there are still plans to sell some of the sites and threats to access at others.
