The first meeting of the Rossendale Cylce Forum was held on the 20th of October to discuss all things cycling in and around Rossendale. It was attended by a number of people representing the different cycling disciplines locally, people involved with the bike trade as well as other interested parties who could see that encouraging cycling would also provide a boost for local communities. A number of the P.M.B.A. team attended to ensure mountain the voice of mountain bikers is heard and we're kept up to date with Rossendale and Lancashire County Councils long term plans.
A number of topics were discussed including the state of the roads in Rossendale, pros and cons of cycle lanes, the provision of cycle paths (developing the Rawtenstall to Bacup link being a favourite, also be nice return route after descending from Cragg back to Lee Quarry). Also discussed were a number of mountain biking initiatives that P.M.B.A. have been involved with such as the provision of better facilities at Lee Quarry, the extension over to Facit Quarry and a P.M.B.A. initiative to harness Rosendale's bridleway network to extend the trail centres into the surrounding countryside. More to come on that in the near future. If you want to read the full minutes from the meeting you can download them here.
This was just the first of an ongoing series of meeting to energise the cycling scene in the area. The next meeting is planned for Tuesday the 17th of January at 6pm and will hosted by P.M.B.A. sponsor Pennine Adventure Limited at Ye Olde Boot and Shoe on Millar Barn Lane in Waterfoot.
