British Mountain Bike Orienteering are holding a round of the Mountain Bike Orienteering British Sprint Championships at Lee and Cragg Quarry this Saturday, the 30th of June. The event is designed to test both navigational and biking skills and can provide an enjoyable recreational ride or provide a challenging and competitive sprint.
There's also a 'come and try it event' being held in Lee Quarry for those who are new to mountain bike orienteering and fancy giving it a try. Anybody can come and take part in this event and there will be experts on hand to give first-timers some advice.
This is the first time this event has been held in the quarries, the variety of terrain and post industrial back drop are good for mountain biking and orienteering. In the words of BMBO 'These two quarries are the perfect location for sprint MTB orienteering.'
The main event will be running between 10am and 1:30pm in both quarries. Competitors will be riding between a fixed set of controls across both quarries and criss-crossing the tracks. Whilst the trails won't actually be closed there may be a lot of extra riders around, some going the wrong way around the red route! The closing date for entries is Wednesday the 27th of June and there won't be the option of entering on the day. More details can be found for this event on the BMBO website.
The 'come and try it' event will be held in Lee Quarry only, starting at 12 noon. There will be limited entry on the day as well as the online registration. More details of the come and try it event as well as online registration can also be found on the BMBO website.
Don't forget that race 2 in the Brownbacks series is taking place on the following Sunday, the 1st of July.
