Gisburn Forest Wins MBR Readers Trail of the Year.

Published on: Nov 16 2011 by Jon Swift

MBRThanks to all of you who voted in the recent MBR poll to find their readers favourite trail of 2011. We won! Polling around 20% of the total vote Gisburn came first with double the votes of the number 2, Stainburn Forest (congratulations to the SingletrAction team). Lee Quarry followed up in a respectable third place.

MBR's take on our success:

"For a while it was looking like the Monkey Trail at Cannock would walk away with our reader poll for a second year, but a late flurry of activity saw Gisburn Forest in Lancashire surge ahead with 20 percent of the votes.

And with good reason; the 18km red-graded 'The 8' trail mixes intricate hand-cut singletrack with spectacular machine-built features. Man and machine in perfect harmony? You lot certainly seem to think so."

If you want to see the other trails that made their 2011 line up and their overall trail of the year you'll have to go out and buy the magazine currently on the shelves of your local purveyor of magazines (well they deserved a plug!).

Gisburn CarriersIn other Gisburn news the Hope Line extension has now been completed but could do with being allowed to bed in so keep off for now. The XC route addition is striding ahead and we have a good chance of having it open around Christmas provided we get enough people turning out to the dig days. Next scheduled dig is the 11th of December but we're also hoping to squeeze an extra day in on the 27th of November. If you want to come and lend us a hand drop us a line and we'll make sure you're on the mailing list to keep you up to date. More information about volunteering at Gisburn can also be found on the Gisburn page.

On a related note the installation of the pay and display meter at Cocklett Hill is now looking imminent and likely to be up and running in the early new year. Why's it on a related note? Volunteers who have put in enough dig days will get an free annual car parking pass, just an extra incentive to get out of bed and come digging on a Sunday.
